Blog Award: One Lovely Blog

This was a neat surprise to wake up to, the news that my blog won an award. Holly from Bippity Boppity Book has decided that I'm one of the people she's passing the One Lovely Blog award on to me.

The rules for this award are:
1. Accept the award, and post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award and his/her blog link.

2. Pass the award to 5 other blogs that you've newly discovered. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know that they have been chosen for this award.

Newly Awarded!

JT Oldfield of Bibliofreak just notified me that she's given me the Humane Award.

The rules for the award are:

This award is to honor certain bloggers that are kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in my blog and always leave the sweetest comments. If it wasn’t for them, my site would just be an ordinary book review blog. Their blogs are also amazing and are tastefully done on a daily basis. I thank them and look forward to our growing friendship through the blog world.

Nominate 10 bloggers you feel deserve the Humane Award.

Will seven do?
  1. J Kaye of J. Kaye's Book Blog. She turns up regularly with something interesting and inspiring.
  2. Marcia of The Printed Page. Host of Mailbox Mondays
  3. Marg of Reading Adventures.
  4. April, who I just discovered runs the Good Books and Good Wine blog.
  5. Wendi B of Wendi's Book Corner.
  6. Jennifer of Rundpinne. Interesting name, but does it mean anything?
  7. Shanra of Libri Touches.

Awarded!

ParaJunkee was spreading the awards last night, and gave me the Zombie Chicken Award. The description of the award is:
"The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken - excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all..."
Now I've got to chose five blogs to nominate. The problem is, all the blogs I follow are so good.

Lets see... (Order listed is that of entries in my blog-reader, not ranking. They're all equally deserving)
  1. Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings: we have, it appears, similar taste in books. If she likes it, it's definitely worth a look.
  2. J. Kaye's Book Blog: has lots of good books, but also discussions of blogger etiquette which I find very helpful. Also, here weekly memes help keep me on my reading targets.
  3. The Eclectic Book Lover: Well organized, with good reviews of interesting books.
  4. The Royal Reviews: A group effort, and a good one. Lots of fun.
  5. The Printed Page: Another goodie, though this blog tries the hardest to sabotage my resistance to buying books.

Awarded!!

Angela of Library Girl Reads just gave me the "Your Blog Is Fabulous" award! I've got to admit that I'm absolutely over the moon about this. Thank you!

My first two nominees are: Rhinoa's Ramblings and Books and Other Thoughts. I'll continue looking at the list a bit later to find the other three.

Nebula Award Ballot

The 100th post in this blog.

If you're curious to find out who is in the running for the 2008 Nebula Award, the ballot has been made available at www.nebulaawards.com on their blog.

It's an interesting list, and there's definitely some good books on it.

Urban Fantasy Land Readers Choice Award

The Urban Fantasy Land blog is running a reader's choice award. If you read any of the books/authors in this genre, you should go on over and vote.

I'll be honest and admit that I haven't read most of the one they list, such as Kelley Armstrong or Jim Butcher. However, some of them I do intend to read in the future. Besides, the way the voting is set up, you only have to vote in the categories where you've read something. In my case, that was the two categories in which they had a book by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Running down their list is also a good way to add to your 'I'd like to read this' list.

The David Gemmell Legend Award

There's a new award out there for fantasy books this year: the David Gemmell Legend Award. According to the website, it's an award for the best fantasy novel of 2008, and they've asked for readers to vote for the best fantasy novel to form their shortlist.

Some of the books on the list include:
Mage Guard of Hamor by L.E. Modesitt
Foundation by Mercedes Lackey
Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik
Graceling by Kristin Cashore

There are a whole host of other books as well. These are just the ones I remember seeing on the list. There's a good chance that one of your favorites will be on the list, so you should go and vote.
