Saturday Snapshot - January 21

Saturday Snapshot is a fun non-book themed meme where you post a photo or snapshot you or someone in your family took, hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.

This week's photo is the same one with some adjustments on the second image. We were snowshoeing last week again, and it was wonderful. There had been a whole lot of snow falling the night before, so the trails were powdery rather than hard, the trees were covered, but this was honestly one of the highlights for me. Animal tracks.
My guess is something like a hare, but I really don't know. Whatever they are, it was a first for me while snowshoeing. The second photo is the same, just adjusted for brightness. I hadn't realized just how dark it was getting when I took the photo.
Overall, the day was more or less perfect - even some absolutely spectacular sunset shots when we got back to the parking lot.

When I used to live in Idaho, we'd have tracks like these around the woodpile outside. I lived in a very rural area. Now that I live in the heart of the city though...I don't see these things.

I wouldn't know how to spot rabbit tracks, but I've seen a lot of deer and elk tracks in mud before. :)

Whatever they are, they're neat to see though, aren't they.

Once in a while as a kid, I've seen deer tracks, and frankly, I wouldn't be too surprised to see them again - I've seen quite a few deer this year.

Thanks for commenting, Michael and Alyce.

I love all the snow pictures that I have been seeing on this saturday snapshot hop. Hardly ever being around snow, I would be horrible at figuring out tracks, but it would be fun to try... Book Savvy Babe

I was going to guess a rabbit - so a hare is just a big rabbit, right? Love the snow pics and the animal tracks.

Looks like a larger animal?? fun to see there prints in the snow.

Rabbit is a very good possibility too. Guess I need to get a book on animal tracks now. :)

Thanks for commenting everyone.

What beautiful soft deep snow!!!!! Love it. Thx for sharing!

Lots of snow pictures today! I get animal tracks in my yard but unless it's birds feet or raccoon paws, they all look the same.

Thanks Burgandy Ice and Leslie. I really have no experience with animal tracks, so I can't say.

I didn't realize I'd be following a theme either when I posted the photos.

The snow was wonderful though, soft enough that the snowshoes really did serve their purpose - not all trodden down by everyone else.

I bet you're right about the tracks belonging to a hare. We get a lot of those in my area.

That's kind of neat, Mary. Thanks.

Very cool! Looks like rabbit/hard to me. As I said in another comment on another Saturday Snapshot post, we have lots of critters in our yard and I love trying to identify them by their tracks.

Elena said...

Thanks Gautami.

That's something I want to learn how to do, Marie.

Two great things here- snowshoeing! And great tracks.

That's for sure, Louise! Was out again today and had a wonderful time again. No tracks this time, but lots of fresh snow and wind.

Thanks for commenting.
